Spotting scopes come in a multitude of magnifications ie 20X60. That is 20 times magnification with a 60mm objective lens. The bigger the objective lens the more light it lets in. But 50mm or 60mm should be more than enough. If you get a fixed power scope you will want a good set of binoculars. After awhile the spotting scope will hurt your head and eyes. It is easier to class with the binos and switch to the scope to check detail. If you do not want to do that. there are several scopes on the market that have adjustable magnification. Bushnell makes a good one. Although I have never used there spotting scopes. I have found Barska rifle scopes to be nicely price and more than dependable. The brand is almost unimportant. Just make sure it has good coated lenses. Is shock and waterproof. You know your budget. You know what you are going to use it for. If you are going to use it for just general purpose hunting. Any good scope will do. If you are using it on a high dollar back country hunt. GO WITH LEUPOLD OR ZEISS!!! Best answer? On the low end BSA, Barska,Burris, Bushnell. High end? Pentax, Nikon,Swarovski Optik,Ziess. My buddy uses a trekker 25-75X75. He got it from Cabela’s and swears by it. I use a Busnell Trophy 20-60X65. I am very happy with it. I use it for preseason scouting and on the 1000 yard line at the range. Just remember. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Go to as many online sites as you can and read the customer reviews on anything that catches your eye.
