what would be a good size and can we buy one for a reasonabe price? We know nothing about scopes. We see people using them all the time when travelling. What do you recommend??
What are you using it for and at what distance? Generally speaking, a larger objective lens is better because it gives better light transmission. I would suggest at least a 60mm objective lens. The image quality suffers at higher levels of magnification in virtually all scopes, even $1000 models, so don’t buy one just because it has higher magnification than another. I would suggest checking the MidwayUSA website if you’re looking for a good price. I just purchased a Simmons spotting scope from them, which I haven’t gotten yet. Also, you may want to consider buying a separate tripod b/c the ones included with the scopes can be pretty inadequate. BTW, I’m not recommending any particular brand. I have had good experiences with Simmons and higher end Bushnell riflescopes.
