Does anyone know anything about spotting scopes and can you recommend one?

I am wanting to get a telescope or spotting scope for my dad for fathers day. He would be using it to view wildlife around his lake house. Is a spotting scope what i need or is a telescope better for this purpose? He currently has an old cheap set of binoculars that he uses. I’d like to get him something that will view things farther away. I’d also like to keep it under $200. Thanks
If he like binoculars, you may just want to upgrade him to a nicer pair.
You can look through binocs for a long time, while spotting scopes are ‘one-eyed’ and usually used for identifying game and targets for short time periods. They also usually need a tripod to hold steady as well.
hey bro, if your dad is just going to use them for bird watching
around the lake house you are going in the wrong direction.
just go online and get him a nice pair of light weight binoculars. check out riflescopes.com they have really good products at a good price, you should be able to find a great pair for 200 bucks. Here is a little bit from one of the pages. A pretty simple concept defines these premium binoculars. See, but don’t be seen. These new Burris Fullfield II binoculars compress full-size performance about as compact as can be for an 8×42mm or 10×42mm binocular so these are handy, concealable and don’t weight you down. The Advantage Timber HD pattern provides the rest of the concealability for close encounters of the buck kind.
Burris Fullfield II binoculars’ feature exceptional brightness as a result of every lens surface being broad band multi-coated and because of the quality BaK4 roof prisms used. You can count on them to be fully waterproof, fogproof and warranted for a full year.
